Convenient base from which to see the island
Within an hour from leaving Montego Bay's International Airport, you'll arrive at Mais Oui. Drive another 30-35 minutes and you are in Ocho Rios. This central location makes sightseeing choices more accessible and enjoyable.
Close (but not too close) to a host of other activities
A short 3 minute walk to the private beach (about as long as it takes to walk from
your room to the beach at most beachfront resorts!). Grand Lido Braco and Portside Resorts are a mere five-minute drive. A short drive provides additional snorkeling and scuba diving sites, golf courses, horseback riding stables, tennis courts, water-sports, shopping, night-life, historic sites, and almost anything else your heart desires!
Beautiful weather
Statistically, the Discovery Bay/Rio Bueno area has perhaps the highest chance of having good weather of all the areas of the North Coast. If showers occur, they tend to last only a few minutes then disappear just as quickly as they came, leaving a refreshed feeling as you dry in the continuous Jamaican breeze.
Historic site
History says Columbus "discovered" Jamaica in 1494 when he landed in Discovery Bay. Recent research, however, suggests that he only sailed into the Discovery Bay Harbor in search of fresh water. Finding none, he named the place "Puerto Seco (Dry Harbor)" and proceeded west to the next harbor, which is of a similar horseshoe shape. There he discovered a river which he named Rio Bueno. The inhabitants, formerly called Arawaks, put up a valiant fight. Columbus overpowered them and claimed the land for the Queen of Spain. Regardless of the debate, Mais Oui is in the center of history. We are on the outskirts of Discovery Bay overlooking the Rio Bueno Harbor.
